A.K: What(art/music/colour, whatever) inspires you most?
J.L: My artist friend Luis Jacob, who is showing at Documenta this summer,
and Final Fantasy, who is currently touring with The Bloc Party.
Finger nail art and store display hands - I have a small collection
and just bought a beautiful black-flocked one. A professor friend's new
project on "Aloneness." The Canadian art collective General Idea.
Shary Boyle, who makes beautiful ceramic figurines in the tradition of
Meissen, that are twisted and dark. Victorian mementos made of hair.
A.K: What was the last thing you watched/heard/read?
J.L: I just finished reading The Line of Beauty by Alan Hollinghurst, a
stunning book staged in the excesses of Thatcherian London.
A.K: If you read magazines which ones and why?
J.L: I don't read magazines, but I sometimes look at them when they get sent
to the studio.
A.K: What is your holiday/off time?
J.L: I don't currently have time for a holiday. This summer however I have
plans to spend some time in British Columbia, as well as in Chicago.
I'm excited to see the scenery and architecture, respectively.
A.K: What is your favorite thing about where you live? Will you stay?
J.L: Toronto is a fully functioning, small-scale big city. There is a
vibrant local art and music scene, plus a beautiful island, with
beaches and little cottages, where it is wonderful to spend the summer.
It's easy to live here, cheap to work here, and so close to New York.
I'm staying for the timebeing, probably the next five years, but we'll
see what happens after that.
A.K: Who is your best friend?
J.L: My husband, B Frank Griggs IV.
