Womenswear Fall-Winter 2006/2007, Carrousel du Louvre, Feb 28, 2006
This collection is inspired by the cinema and graphic arts of the Russian Avant-Garde during the 20s, with poetic reference to the appealing poster from the no longer existing film comedy "Six Girls Seeking Shelter", 1928, by Hans Berendt. Many films of this period did not survive time, only posters remain, markers of a revolutionary period in cinema and defiantly in graphic design as seen by the works of Constructivist and Productivist artists as Rodchenko, Stenberg brothers, Ruklevsky. The Russian style has a certain geometric convention and lively bold composition. alenaakhmadullina's collection is bold homage to this period, a juxtaposition of modern and historic. Models stride in hand-made crocheted dresses, lovely silk satin skirts, poster printed tops, and lean jerseys suits in chiffon, in shiny cotton. Touches of geometrical patterns mingle with embroidery and shiny beads. Fitted dinner jackets, mannish tail-coats with large lapels and cloaks in alpaca, mohair, bouffant fur coats and mantles in mink, fox, play on themes of the roaring 20s. Outfits are finished off with strappy satin shoes with leather buckles, geometrically shaped handbags, 20s hairstyles and kokoshnik, traditional Russian head dress/bonnet. text: Sharifa Jamaldin
